by Holly Garcia (my writing based on Job’s conversation with God)
You really need to read the book of Job, to understand the magnitude of God’s answer in the face of suffering. Who are we to question the Maker of Heaven and Earth?
This is a loosely based poem/song I wrote on a part of God and Job’s conversation from chapter 38 on.
For You have hidden Your face from us,
And have consumed us because of our iniquities.
But now, O Lord, You are our Father;
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand.
Do not be furious, O Lord,
Nor remember iniquity forever;
Indeed, please look—we all are Your people!
GOD’S CONVERSATION WITH JOB
Who laid the WORLD’s foundation?
Do you understand?
It was marked and measured;
Was it by your hand?
The earth is round,
Yet who laid that cornerstone?
He set the footings then said, “BY MY HAND, IT IS DONE”.
(IT WAS DONE! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?…. Tell me do you know?)
Who leads the stars in their song,
While the angels JOYFULLY shout?
Who shut the sea behind its’ doors,
As it strains to burst out?
Who gave the ocean a cloak of clouds,
Crowned it with the thick of night
And told the waves, GO NO FURTHER;
DAWN… bring forth your light?
(TELL ME, DO YOU KNOW? SURELY YOU KNOW!)
When have you told the morning,
To send the dawn to the edge of the earth?
To shake the evil from the darkness,
Light denies the wicked its worth.
Tell me have you ever seen
The Springs of the Sea?
Walked in the deepest part
To look at His Majesty?
(Even there His hand would lead me)
Have you looked upon the Gates of Death?
Understood Earth’s vast expanse?
Where is the House of Light?
And tell me, Where does darkness dance?
(CAN YOU TAKE HIM THERE? DO YOU KNOW THE WAY?)
Have you been to the storehouses
Of Heavens’ hail and snow?
Weren’t you already born?
Surely you must know!
He commands the lightning bolts,
Scatters the Eastern winds.
He waters the desolate lands
Wherein no man lives.
Who is the Father of the rain and dew,
The ice and frost from heaven?
Can you loose or bind the stars above,
All under His dominion?
He endows the heart with wisdom,
And minds filled to understand,
His voice raises to the clouds above,
Tipping Heavens’ jars to flood the land.
The Lions’ hunger He satisfies,
Watching the fawn as she bears her doe.
At His word, the hawks take flight,
The eagles soar, and lo…
I am unworthy, I am unworthy,
I will answer you no more
Glory and Splendor,
Honor and Majesty are yours.
The hawk takes flight and the Eagles Soar,
I am unworthy—how can I answer you?
I will put my hand over my mouth
I cannot tell God what is true.
I spoke of things I did not understand,
Too wonderful for me to know.
You can do all things.
No plans thwarted by any foe.
Who is able to stand against You?
You are in charge of the grave,
Nothing I do can bring me there,
Only the Son can save.
Who dare make a claim,
Against God that He must pay?
All is His under Heaven,
The righteous redeemed on that day.
Fury and Wrath could He unleash,
Crush the wicked where they stand.
He gives peace when the river rages.
And righteous prayer stays His Hand.
Vengeance is only His,
As is Forgiveness and Mercy
From Him, Comfort and Consolation
Acceptance and Prosperity.
Glory, Splendor, Honor and Majesty
My ears had heard, now my eyes have seen.
Through Him I am worthy,
On God’s Strength and Power, I’ll lean.
